The groups supported by PHT operate in a variety of environments and run diverse programs. For example some provide high quality free vocational, traditional and values-based education for girls where none previously existed, or train formerly trafficked girls to become the next generation of anti-trafficking leaders in the Greater Mekong Region (Thailand, Myanmar, Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia, and southern China), while others confront traffickers directly at personal risk, providing food, shelter, safety and education to street kids, who are at highest risk of trafficking and exploitation.
Another partner operates largely in the big cities, advocating to amend laws, ensuring prosecution of victimizers of trafficked, prostituted and otherwise sexually abused children through the local court system and using an extensive network of police, judges and other officials to correct justice system weaknesses regarding sex and labor crimes against children.
Child Protection Center
The Anti-Human Trafficking and anti Child Abuse Center (ATCC) in Pattaya, Thailand, has recently launched The Child Protection and Development Life Skill Center (CPLC) run by Mr. Ja in coordination with a national foundation called Fight Against Child Exploitation (FACE). ATCC was established in 2003 by Sudarat Sereewat whose 30-year career has focused on investigation, support and advocacy for legal action against child traffickers and abusers.
Development and Education Program for Daughters and Communities
This organization is a community-based NGO headquartered in Mae Sai, Thailand. DEPDC works in the Greater Mekong Sub-region (GMS) to combat human trafficking through programs targeting the most vulnerable and at risk children: stateless, migrant and ethnic groups. Founded in 1989, DEPDC offers 10 integrated projects at three locations, in education for prevention, protection for victims, media for awareness and a regional youth leadership network for unified trafficking response.
The Mechai Bamboo School
The joint project “School-Based Human Rights and Poverty Eradication Project” between PHT and operated by the Mechai Bamboo School and the Population and Development International (PDI) has been pilot tested in 12 rural schools in Thailand and many more schools in poor rural areas have requested to participate. As poverty is a major factor contributing to denial of human rights and source of human trafficking it is proposed that we tackle both in and integrated system.
The Mae Sarieng Scholarship
From 2007-2012 PHT administered this 3rd party self-perpetuating fund to enable underprivileged children in Mae Sarieng District, Mae Hong Son Province in Northern Thailand to attend secondary school (7th - 12th grade). The fund was established to reduce poverty and improve health through education. PHTs focus to prevent human trafficking and eliminate the exploitation of the weakest segments of our society goes hand-in-hand with the objective of this scholarship fund.
More than a third of the people in Mae Sarieng District live in poverty and nearly half of the population is illiterate. The mountainous region which borders Myanmar, is a rural and very poor region in Thailand. The population is a blend of Northern Thais, hill tribe minorities such as the Karen and Hmong groups, and refugees from Myanmar.
